Preamble

Editor’s Letter
Dearest Biodanceros,
What a year already! And what we have ahead!
We had a hugely successful Encounter in December last! See the article. And this year’s will be off the scale with thirty Brazilians coming to inject us all with Carnival!
The number of facilitators’ now actively offering classes has increased enormously. Biodanza is moving into its own energy for sustainability in South Africa! No longer just a few!
We have had some wonderful requests – corporate, youth & community interest. Drew and Frans had a wonderful event with over 100 participants for AIDs awareness.
And the Organisational Development process under Ian Goldman’s leadership and now Chantal Stuikerboom’s has moved us forward as a community with a more long term vision.
With Rolando Toro Araneda passing on in February, the International Biocentric Foundation (IBF) is stepping up to grow Biodanza world wide.
One of our first didactic teachers – Michele Macek - has received permission to open a school in Washington DC! And we expect Beverly Dallas Orr to get permission from the IBF to open a school in Durban later this year! And for those of you who remember Gillian Vellet, she is exploring opening a school in Canada!
We are looking at translating a Biodanza book into English! Yes, it is happening!!!!! You can meet the Brazilian author in October!
Growth, movement, expansion and progress!
With love,
Carolina
Biodanza African Encounter
Ricardo Toro led the Encounter at the Nest in December in a wonderfully, gentle and subtle vivencia. He truly showed his potential as the grandson of Rolando! A depth and power of facilitation we just loved.
“Ricardo's facilitation touched my heart deeply - I transcended to spaces of love, joy, bliss, and yes, painful areas with gentleness.”
“A deep healing and release of stresses and strains in me happened.”
And yes, love blossomed! We had four couples come together at the Encounter and are still moving forward in their new relationships! Cupid has been very busy!
One woman was brave enough to bring her whole family! She said:
“It was truly a life changing experience in the life of our family which could never have happened in a less supported and loving environment.
We can now look forward to taking on life with these extra gifts of gentler communication …”
And Willem Smuts and Virginie Charlier took the floor for the local facilitators and showed their skill!
We have already had bookings from overseas for this year! Thirty Brazilians and some Dutch already!
“My friends and I are making plans to come to South Africa again for December 2010. I'm longing to see you and the fabulous dancers ...
It was a life changing experience ... I'm still enjoying it ... big Hug”.
”It was fantastic to be there together!”
Bookings for this year are closed as we are fully booked! For those attending, you will leave celebrated, walking on air, vibrant, and deeply rooted in your love for life. Thank you for your support.
Whats Your Carbon Footprint?
“Yes we did it. We calculated our personal contribution to global warming. Eight flights to Cape Town. Two international long haul flights. 25,000 kilometers of driving. And we hate being cold in a South African winter – 11,814 kilowatts of electricity! And yes we still do not have a paperless office – thirty six reams of paper (my husband).
So my child, husband and I owe Mother Earth 60 trees. Can you believe it!? Not sure if this is an annual or a once off payment. But let us assume it is annual. Luckily we don’t have to plant them all in our garden. Thanks to Food & Trees for Africa, they can do it for us!
Phew! No fights with husband over planting (not his thing and certainly not mine). And definitely a Parkmore home can’t cope with a small forest!
Cost per tree is R90. So we pay R5,400 or R450 per month and we are back in some sort of an ethical relationship with Mother Earth.
So Biodanza is about putting life first. And we want a planet to dance on. So, take the plunge. Find out how many trees you owe Mother Earth.
It’s easy peasy. Go to Food and Trees for Africa’s website – www.trees.co.za – click on the Carbon Footprint calculator (at the bottom of the page). You need to know your quantity of air travel, your kilometres driven per annum, the reams of paper you use per month, your electricity consumption per annum (in Kw). For the last you need your Eskom bill and it has a nice graph that lets you estimate quite quickly.
Fill in the calculator. Get the quantity of trees. And move on to pay! Easy. Let me know when you have done it!!
Did you Know?
Many African languages have no word to define music.
The most widely used musical instrument in Africa is the human voice.
