Biodanza Facilitator Training
The facilitator training course is designed to give a solid grounding in the seven key skills and areas of knowledge of a Biodanza Facilitator. This course is currently delivered in Johannesburg and Cape Town.
The Personal Development Course, a prerequisite for undertaking facilitator training, provides the basic grounding to develop your own capacity to experience vivencia, to go beyond performance and ‘become the dance’, and to develop sufficient empathy to understand other peoples experience of Biodanza. It also gives a basic understanding of the theory of Biodanza.
The Facilitator Training Course focuses on providing the necessary practical skills to lead a group through a Biodanza process and the additional knowledge for someone wanting to pursue a career in Biodanza facilitation.

Skills of a Biodanza Facilitator
There are seven key skills of a Biodanza Facilitator. These are:
- Understanding the theory and methodology of Biodanza and its application
- Your own ability to experience vivencia
- Your ability to “become the dance” and demonstrate the exercise
- Your poetic enunciation (or introduction) of each exercise with imagery,
a word, poetry etc.
- Your choice of music and understanding of how a piece of music might
impact on a group process
- Your design of a class on the correct gradient and sequence for the group participants
- Your observation and reading of the group and individual reactions to your enunciations, the exercises, the music and the class as a whole.
The Methodology weekends are essential to develop the practical skills to facilitate Biodanza workshops successfully. In these modules, the student learns the basics to design classes from short introductory classes to weekend workshops.

Regular Weekly Classes
Biodanza is a process of personal development and growth. Experience has shown that those students that do not maintain regular attendance at a weekly class have difficulties in their development as facilitators. It is essential that student facilitators continue to utilise Biodanza for their own personal growth by attending weekly classes.
If the person lives far away and cannot attend a weekly class, he/she must participate in a number of weekend courses of Biodanza other than the weekend of the School. This is a prerequisite for becoming a facilitator of Biodanza.
Social Action
The student can optionally participate in social action with Biodanza, (e.g working with senior citizens, institutions of child protection, disabled group organisations, etc. These activities will be considered in the student’s personal CV.
Students often utilise these experiences to considerable benefit for such groups and for their own development as facilitators.
Training Modules
Facilitator training is delivered over a series of weekend workshops usually one per month and averaging from eight to ten per annum.
The training modules are as follows:
- Mechanisms of Action of Biodanza
- Psychological Aspects of Biodanza
- Biocentric Education
- Contact & Caress;
- Human Movement
- Applications & Extensions of Biodanza,
- Biodanza Ars Magna
- Methodology I (Musical Semantics)
- Methodology II (The Biodanza Session)
- Methodology III (The Biodanza Session continued)
- Methodology IV (Weekly and Weekend Biodanza Classes)
- Methodology V (The Group of Biodanza)
- Methodology VI (Criteria of Development and Evaluation in Biodanza)
- Methodology VII (In depth learning of the official list of exercises,
enunciations and music of Biodanza)
- Recovery weekend
In addition to the above training modules, the Director of the School may arrange up to three additional lectures given by specialists on their respective subjects.

Course Work
Following each weekend, students must present a brief written summary of the module. This must include theory of the subject, a synthesis of their vivencias, personal comments and reflections.
Supervisory Period & Thesis
On completion of the syllabus, students undertake a series of practical supervisory classes until such point as they demonstrate their competence as facilitators. This is normally up to eight supervisory classes.
The purpose of the supervisory period is to ensure the student can apply successfully the material learnt by forming a group and practicing the seven skills of a facilitator.
Thesis & Presentation
The student is required to undertake a thesis on any aspect or application of Biodanza. It is developed following discussion and agreement with the Director of the School. It should normally include a summary of the personal journey of the student facilitator through Biodanza
The thesis is presented orally (viva voce) to an examination board composed of the Director of the School and at least one other Didactic Teacher of Biodanza and is open to the public. The student graduates when the examination board approves the presentation of the thesis.

Certification
The certificate of completion of the Facilitator Training Course demonstrates competence to facilitate others' experience through Biodanza weekly classes and with sufficient knowledge to create weekend workshops.
Once the student has completed all the stages of the programme, and has presented the thesis successfully, the student receives the Certificate of “Facilitator of Biodanza” and an International Biocentric Foundation (IBF) registration number. The diploma is signed by the Director of Biodanza South Africa and the President of the IBF.
This certifies a facilitator to lead groups and weekend workshops of Biodanza worldwide.
The courses are held in Johannesburg and Cape Town.
